Cois Nore’s Journey to Cois Nore House
on Kilkenny’s Waterford Road

“We want best-in-class cancer support for those affected by cancer and their families.” – Bill Cuddihy, Chairman

Every single day in Kilkenny, two families receive a diagnosis that turns their lives upside down. The emotional landslide begins immediately — shock, fear, and questions that are too big to ask. It’s not just the patient who’s affected. It’s their partner, their children, their neighbour dropping by with food. And when the hospital appointments end, the cancer journey doesn’t — it stretches on in quiet, uncertain ways.

Cois Nore was founded because healing takes more than medicine. It takes the availability of professional support services, delivered locally with empathy, understanding and the warm embrace of a community. Since 2013, we’ve supported thousands of families through the storm — but now we face a critical point: we need more room to do better.

Why Cois Nore Needs to Move

Our Walkin Street premises served us well – thanks to the very generous Cody family — but demand for Cois Nore’s services has outgrown its walls. Some services are now delivered off-site. Counselling and touch therapies jostle for space. Parents seeking help for children after a terminal diagnosis need privacy.

In reality “The growing need” means we’ve been playing catch-up. Our current space restricts our ability to respond to the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll cancer brings.

We need a centre that meets that need. That respects dignity. That says, you’re not alone.

Cois Nore - Built for Healing

Following extensive research, Cois Nore mapped out Kilkenny’s gaps in cancer support. We looked locally and globally for best practices and came to a clear conclusion: Cois Nore needs a new, purpose-built space.

At Cois Nore House, on the Waterford Road, Kilkenny, we will open a centre that allows people to recover, rebuild, and reconnect — all within their own community.

Key features will include:
• Therapy rooms for reflexology, counselling, and life coaching
• Safe spaces for children and teens (Junior & Teen CLIMB, “Helping Parents — Helping Children”)
• Community wellness programmes (choir, arts & crafts, mindfulness)
• Dedicated facilities for nutrition, finance, and drop-in support
• Group rooms for men’s and breast cancer support, and families parenting alone after cancer

House Plan

How We'll Make It Happen - Together

€2 million — that’s what it will take to move into our new home: renovations, furnishing, Community fundraising, Government funding, personal donations and commercial sponsorship will be at the heart of our fundraising drive

“In it Together” puts it plainly:
“Cois Nore finds itself with a dilemma. How do we ignite the goodwill that exists within the community?”

We believe that goodwill is woven into the fabric of Kilkenny. It’s the neighbour who brings dinner. It’s the friend who drives someone to chemotherapy. It’s everyone who sees themselves in the journey, even if they’ve never walked it.

Community fundraising will be central to this next chapter. Whether it’s a bake sale, a sponsored walk, or simply sharing this story — every gesture builds the future.

Stronger Together

When we move to Cois Nore House we bring the vision of In It Together to life:

“Individuals and families will be supported to take back control of their lives.”

Our new home will protect dignity, nurture recovery, and empower hope. More than a building — it’s a promise: that in County Kilkenny, no one faces cancer alone.

We’re asking you — the community we serve — to walk with us once more.
